Bhubaneswar, April 28: As the lockdown crisis amid the health disaster of COVID 19 has severely hit the blood supply for the needy, several Good Samaritans have started playing their key role to bridge the gap.
Several politicians, officials and voluntary organisations have now extended their help to provide blood to the needy during lockdown curbs.
During this crisis, former MLA from Cuttack – Choudwar constituency Prabhat Ranjan Biswal came forward to do his bit of aid during the crisis. As urged by Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik to fulfill the blood scarcity in the state, Biswal has organised multiple blood donation camps in last seven days to help the ailing get the assistance.
More than 500 units of blood have been collected from these camps. These blood donation camps were started from Biswal’s residence on April 17, where 40 units of blood collected. Whereas in subsequent camps at multiple places of Cuttack-Choudwar, 556 units of blood have been collected. The entire initiative was made successful by the active participation of many volunteers.
There are several other examples where the top officials of the government too set example where the scarcity of blood availability hit hard in the state. Boudh Collector Lalatendu Sarangi was also recently seen donating his blood at the Boudh District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) to help in tackling with the shortage of blood.
The Office of the Collector said, “The Blood Bank, DHH Boudh currently has shortage of blood units due to COVID Lockdown. Collector, Boudh has himself come forward and donated blood today,”
The official has also urged people to contact the incharge of blood bank officials there for blood donations. The district administration has also shared the details of the phone number which could be contacted for the same.
