Keonjhar Shame: Man carries Dead Sister’s Skeleton to Bank for ₹20,000 Withdrawal

TBN(28/04): A shocking incident came to light in Odisha’s Keonjhar district after a tribal man arrived at a bank carrying the skeletal remains of his deceased sister, reportedly to withdraw money from her account.

The incident took place on Monday at the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block. The man, identified as 50-year-old Jeetu Munda from Dianali village, wanted to withdraw ₹20,000 deposited in the name of his elder sister, Kalra Munda, who passed away on January 26, 2026.

Speaking to reporters, Jeetu said he had visited the bank several times but was repeatedly told to bring the account holder in person to complete the withdrawal. He claimed that despite informing officials about his sister’s death, they continued insisting on her presence.

Frustrated by the repeated demands, Jeetu said he exhumed her grave and brought her skeleton to the bank to prove that she was no longer alive.

After receiving information about the matter, Patana Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Kiran Prasad Sahu reached the bank. He stated that Jeetu, being illiterate, was unaware of the legal procedures involving nominees or legal heirs for accessing funds from a deceased person’s account.

The officer further said bank officials had failed to properly explain the required process to him, which ultimately led to the disturbing incident.
