Post MHA directions, Odisha asks shops to resume operations

Bhubaneswar, April 25: The Odisha government on Saturday issued notification allowing commercial establishments to resume operations while imposing certain restrictions.

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department in a notification allowed all shops to open with the exception of shopping malls.The department however said that the full terms and conditions and timings for such operations will be decided by the Collectors and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The notification said that the new exemptions will be added to the prevailing order of the government which talks about relevant exemptions during the lockdown.

The notification while talking freedom of more shops to resume operations said, “All shops registered under the Odisha Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 including shops in residential complex and market complex except shops in multi-brand and single brand malls, outside the limits of municipal corporations and municipalities, with 50% strength of workers with wearing of masks and social distancing being mandatory,”

It also said, “All shops including neighbourhood shops and standalone shops, shops in residential complexes within the timits of municipal corporations and municipalities registered under the Orissa Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 except shops in market complexes and multi-brand and single brand malls, with 50% strength of workers with wearing of masks and social distancing being mandatory,”

The notification has given the final powers for local level implementation to the ULBs and the Collectors. It said, “Provided that the Municipal Commissioners and the Collectors shall notify detailed orders specifying the shops/ type of shops to open within the limits of Municipal Corporations & ULBs and the Districts as well as their timing.”
