Ghanashyam Karan: Author, Social worker and former Sr Executive of SAIL is No More

Bhubaneswar, 04/04/24: Acclaimed Author, social worker and former senior executive of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Ghanashyam Karan, died of prolonged illnesses. He was eighty-eight years old. Ghanashyam was critically ill due old age related complications. He has been under medical attention for the previous few days. On March 28, he passed away peacefully at his residence in Bhubaneswar. Ghanshyam is survived by his wife, two sons, and three daughters. Senior journalist and recipient of Ramnath Goenka award for outstanding journalists, Jajati Karan is the younger son of Ghanashyam Karan.
He was well-known for upholding the highest standards of honesty and integrity during his stint as various capacity in SAIL. Ghanashyam was very popular in native Rajkanika for his unique personality. He was born in 1937 in Baruna village, which is part of Rajakanika block in Kendrapara district. He was born into a not so well off family where going to school was a dream. Nevertheless, his modest upbringing did not stop him from having lofty dreams. Thanks to his perseverance, tenacity, and strong work ethic, he joined SAIL after earning a law degree and post-graduation with honours. In addition to being a social activist and top executive at SAIL, he had carved out a career for himself as a novelist due to his passion for reading and writing .

His five novels were largely about religion and philosophy of life. There is a void in the literary world since his demise. He was well-known among his friends and acquaintances as a man of remarkable talents, both intellectual and emotional. Ghanshyam entered the social service field after voluntarily retiring from SAIL as a top executive.
His wife smt Kunjalata, sons Amitabh and Jajati, daughters Kabita, Sabita, and Babita, son-in-laws Sanjay, Sagar, and Prabhat, and grandkids were present while he breathed last. On March 28, his last rites and funeral ceremonies were held at Puri Swargadwar with his mortal remains present. Amitabh, his eldest son, lighted the funeral pyre in front of his loved ones and supporters. Many eminent persons from politics to media, business and literary fields expressed condolences.
